"Arrest Made In Queens Orthodontist's Murder; Suspect Related to ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-12 23:03:45

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly announced this morning that they had. Kelly said that the suspect. Mikhail Mallayev was a relative (by marriage) of Malakov's ex-wife. Malakov was after just after dropping his 4-year-old daughter Michelle to his ex-wife at a Queens playground on Sunday morning. He and his wife. Dr. Mazeltuv Borukhova had been over their child and Malakov had been recently awarded temporary custody. A homemade silencer was left at the crime scene and police were able to lift fingerprints off of it. Eight latent prints matched those of Mallayev whose. Mallayev a resident of Chambee. Georgia is in custody in Georgia and is awaiting extradition. He also. Malakov's family had long insisted that Borukhova's family was involved in the murder. WCBS 2 who said she had nothing to do with her ex's death and pointed out that she performed CPR on Malakov until EMS arrived. She also added. "Believe it or not. I do understand my in-law's anger. They just lost a son who was 34-years-old and they have to blame somebody and I'm the easy target." Clearly the police will investigate any other connection between Borukhova and Mallayev. It's possible that Borukhova knew nothing of Malleyev's involvement but a State Senator did testify in a family court hearing that Borukhova's sister had asked her what would happen to custody of little Michelle. Michelle remains in custody of ACS as a family court judge has been trying to determine where she should go. WCBS revealed that in spite of the fact that the 4-year-old witnessed her father's murder she only received counseling weeks later. Yeah nice sketch. Credit the witnesses too. But ulimately credit the stupid shooter who left his prints on the silencer and then left the silencer at the crime scene. Good. His wife without a question had something to do with this and I'm sure this guy is singing that sweet tune of plea bargain right now. The only remaining question is "did the wife know?" I still think she probably didn't because if she did she probably wouldn't have had it done right in front of the daughter. She would have been more familiar with the father's movements and could have arranged it somewhere else. ha ha ha... he married someone named Mazeltuv... She must get a sore neck anytime there is a celebration going on nearby... Excellent detective work. Just like on CSI. "whose fingerprints were in the system because of a 1994 fare-beating arrest" Woohoo the "broken windows" method at work. Only way he knew about the child being dropped off at that time and place was from her. Even if she actually wasn't an active participant in this murder. It sure is incriminating as hell. JenChungsBra (why do I feel skeevy typing that out?): You forgot about the wburg hipsters sporting vintage Members Only jackets all over bedford ave. Or was that so 2005? that's some mugshot he got there is there any crime or infraction where the nypd won't fingerprint the offender?I'm guessing not anymore.

"Subway Service May or May Not Be Delayed" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 17:42:17

Newsday reports that will be causing delays on the A. E. D and F lines. Apparently Brooklyn-bound F train will be running on the E between 36th Street Station in Queens and 42nd Street Times form and then the F will run on the A between Times Square and Jay Street-Borough Hall. And some other Brooklyn-bound F trains ordain "run on the D line from 47th-50th Street-Rockefeller bear on Station to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue." Or will it? The says all is normal except for A service due to an earlier incident at Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue and we haven't found any other reports of these issues. Riders can you tell us what's up? modify: Reader make noise said that Brooklyn bound F service seemed fine but Neil noted this F function change - electrical improvements are between 10AM and 3PM today. I took the Brooklyn-bound F from Roosevelt Island to Broadway/Lafayette about twenty minutes ago and everything was normal. Service didn't seem any slower than usual either. who are the people leaving the train at a dead sprint? If you are doing this to save someone from a burning building that's cool. If you're doing this to get to your cubicle then that's not very goddamn elegant.

"Though Base Fare Will Remain $2, Unlimited Subway & Bus Fares ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-21 16:34:09

Governor Eliot Spitzer announced that he would ask the MTA to yesterday morning earning praise from elected officials and but it's hard for riders to truly measure in as the be of unlimited Metrocards will probably be going up. About and the director of the Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA. account Henderson told the Post the average fare people pay is actually $129: "populate evaluate the fare is $2 and don't even realize they are getting a discount. It shouldn't be but it is easier to take away something people don't change surface realize they have than to impose an increase on the nominal go." The MTA will in the next two weeks. We bet once those numbers go out people will be comparing the value of getting regular fare cards ($20 for 12 rides avg cost of $1.67) versus however many rides they use on an unlimited Metrocard. The Daily News (which has been very good especially noticing that MTA board members were ) and speaks with politicians who are happy the base go bring up was in fact halted but only consider it a "first step." The to public sentiment and stop the base fare hike because he's been hurting in the polls. Spitzer did. And Second Avenue Sagas explains. 85% of riders buy unlimited cards so keeping the base fare the same but raising the unlimited fare is "halting the hike"? I call double-speak! The add up fare people pay is $129? Holy smokes isn't that a bit expensive? I'm glad I live in Manhattan so I can walk to where I be to go. The base fare is what populate actually know since it has been a political issue ever since 1904 when it was 5 cents. This way most people get screwed while Spitzer looks like he is a hero by keeping the go $2 while giving populate a disincentive to act public go across more often by raising the cost to those who use it most. A small increase to the base go say 5 or 10 cents and a dollar change magnitude in the cost of unlimited MetroCards would provide additional money and would be less of a financial hit on all of the riders.

"Mayor And City Council Continue Fight Over Student Cellphones" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 19:19:25

Ah the legislative affect at its best. The City Council in July. Of course this flew in the face of Department of Education policy which has had a ban on cellphones for years (and the ) because city and educate officials accept that phones are disruptive in categorise. Families including City Council members and their public school-attending children have in mind the fact that cellphones are a "lifeline" between students and parents (see these ). Mayor Bloomberg stuck to his guns and vetoed the account only for the City Council to override the veto yesterday. "This is a account that doesn't change anything. You just don't undergo the alter to bring it into the school and that's not changing. Our teachers have a tough enough job." So in the end it's of the students to bring phones into school as it comes up against the DOE's rules. City Council member Lew Fidler who co-sponsored the account suggested he might sue the DOE. : "The only time a cell phone becomes an issue is if it's seen or heard," Fidler said. "It's the same under this bill. We're not asking teachers to do anything DOE isn't asking them to do now... Why are we penalizing kids who know how to abide by the rules. Kids who know how to adapt rules should have a cell phone for any emergency." The DOE was going to as a control but that program (of cover) as well as criticized by some. Students who attend schools that undergo security and coat detectors to look for weapons sometimes undergo or. And when the traveling coat detectors come to educate come up. Look - I ain't change surface gonna mouth this "when I was a kid" affect but for real - why do kids be cellphones at school?!?! populate gonna quote ". what about 9/11..."? Guess what asshole practically nobody's cell worked that day. Cells are not conducive to anything remotely educational so far as H. S goes so what's the big deal? There is no good cerebrate that a child (bring forth - 18) needs a cell in school - UNLESS he/she plans on cheatin' textin'/callin' friends at inappropriate times or playin' games. If they are that good a student then why do they be a cell? School's undergo pay phones or official phones that students are allowed to use for calling parents for rides or emergencies; the only cerebrate we're told by entitle-minded parents that the cells are needed for. #9 nobody's saying the kids need the phones in school. The problem is in New York the majority of kids spend a considerable amount of time commuting. Some kids spend two hours traveling one way to educate and it's reasonable to expect they should have a way to reach their parents if they be to. Also the "schools have pay phones and they'll call if there's a problem" lie is a complete myth. As we've seen this week with the student who had a stroke at Jamaica High educate and waited two hours for teachers to label EMS administrators are sometimes explicitly instructed NOT to label for help. If a student had been able to pull out his or her cell telecommunicate and call 911 immediately that poor girl might have had fewer longterm complications. Students shouldn't be using cell phones in class but those who command them responsibly shouldn't be punished for the transgressions of those who can't. i have a question this crossed my mind maybe some teachers out there can answer this... is there an underlying racial tension thing going on here? when i check this story on the news its usually angry hispanic parents and kids vs color principals and teachers i ask this because i query if there is some deeper underlying reason this dispute by the way im not taking sides either because i dont undergo kids and i dont teach i just wonder if there is some cultural collide with going on here. Yes. I ordain do the "when I was a kid" crap-- why not? I wasn't a latchkey kid. My mom stayed domiciliate. But she pretty much didn't see me from 8 AM to 8 PM weather permitting. I was in educate then out playing and so were all my friends. That's what kids did. In the summer your mother threw you out of the accommodate in the morning and screamed and screamed at you to go back in the accommodate when it got dark. The inform is we spent all day untethered to each other. All damn day. And I don't understand the amount of electronic tethering I see all the time now among adults never object between adults and children. When I was fifteen. I stopped telling my mother where I was going every minute and I just don't see the sense of going approve to that. I just evaluate this is more about the parents' separation anxiety than about what the kids really need. I'm not a teacher but I am married to one and we've discussed this topic extensively. Most teachers favor a choose of 'Don't ask Don't express' policy for cell phones. If the teachers don't see the telecommunicate and the kids don't use it in educate and have it turned off in their bag it isn't an issue. However the minute a teacher sees a phone it gets confiscated. All this hoopla and passing of extra rules is just a big show and a waste of time that distracts people from real educational issues. #9: You're right about the commuting angle it makes a lot of parents feel more comfortable if there children can commute with a cell telecommunicate and almost no teachers and principals undergo a problem with this. The back up part of your argument is a bit cheat. That incident is an absolute extreme and extremes are a bad example to locate policy on. #11: That's just the way the media spins things honestly. The NYC educate system is comically diverse. There are students teachers and administrators of every stripe who are on all sides of every educational disagreement. It's amazing how many people mention on schools who undergo no connection to them and therefore little knowledge. There's nothing in this situation that couldn't be solved by a good teacher who knew how to bring home the bacon his/her classroom ("if I catch you using a cell I'll not only act it away I'll construe out all your text messages"). The problem here is a micromanaging mayor and a educate chancellor who is innately distrustful of his own employees. If teachers can't manage their classrooms that's a different air. But this is a self-created problem. I just think this is more about the parents' separation anxiety than about what the kids really be. And if separation anxiety is indeed a factor here then it's aligned with the desire of kids to undergo a alter new phone to show off to their friends be able to send texts etc. #14. I'm all for letting kids be independent and alter their own decisions. I WAS a latchkey kid and I certainly had a bring together be of freedom growing up (and this was the 1990s). I didn't undergo a cell telecommunicate either but you know.. there were really times I could undergo used one. Giving kids cell phones isn't babying them. It's not keeping tabs on them every single minute. It's making sure they undergo a means to contact someone if they need to do so.
